Former Coursera CMO Kurt Apen joins Korbit

Kurt Apen has joined Korbit as an advisor to help our team with business and marketing strategy.

Kurt has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. 

Kurt brings more than 20 years of marketing experience in consumer internet having developed, launched and scaled new brands and services in education, entertainment and e-commerce.  He has worked for iconic community driven brands like eBay, Disney and Coursera. At eBay he was on the team that launched and scaled eBay Motors, which created a new way for people to buy and sell cars via the internet.  He also led in the creation of several eBay marketing teams and launched eBay’s loyalty program eBay Bucks and eBay’s buyer guarantee program.  At Disney his marketing team launched multiple mobile games to top 10 positions in the Apple App Store. 

More recently, Kurt served as the first CMO of Coursera, one of the world’s largest online learning platforms. In his three years with Coursera  he grew its learner base from 8 million to over 30 million registered users, Kurt built Coursera’s marketing and PR team and developed the company’s first brand strategy and helped develop and launch Coursera’s first three revenue streams across consumer, enterprise and online degrees. Kurt is excited that Korbit is leveraging AI and machine learning to develop a new and more personalized online learning experience for data science.
